Sigmet active : a novel. by. Page, Thomas, 1942-. Author (alternate script). 184 pages ; 24 cm. Notes. The original book is like this.

When my book was printed, some of the pages were folded over, so there is overlapping text on some pages as well as crumpled pages that got an incomplete print.

Luckily i also bought the Ebook so i can fill in the gaps. Very, VERY dissapointed in the physical quality of this book. I picked this book of a rack of used. 50 books expecting it to be yet another run-of-the-mill sci-fi/thriller story. However, i was greatly supprised by its ingenious plots, masterfull suspence, and front of your seat action. It begins as a group of scientists testing out a new superpowerfull military laser somewhere in the middle of the Pacific.

It begins as a group of scientists testing out a new superpowerfull military laser somewhere in the middle of the Pacific. However, in doing so, they manage to rip a huge hole in the ozone layer. Soon after, a storm forms and begins to kill off all the animals in the surrounding islands. Then it takes off from there with twisted science excitement. A must read.

Review/Essay by Nancy Shiffrin

“Storm coming!” A Japanese fisherman can sense something wrong. A different
kind of storm. A storm that will transform into a kind of monster, exacting the
wrath of God on people who ignore the caveat not to mess with mother nature.
Jeff Holden, meteorologist, is getting ready to join a scientific team investigating
the storm.

Surprise! Surprise! Gina Lambert, an old girlfriend, shows up with her
son. She is divorced, grieving her father, homeless. Jeff invites her to stay; and
even to decorate his home if she wishes.

Jeff leaves to join the scientific team Here we see the men taking measurements,
analyzing results, trying to find out what's happening. The storm seems to take on
will, seeking out specific people to destroy.

This is such a great read, I don't want to give away too much more. As I read, I
saw a movie. The storm wreaks it's wrath; the men debate, the woman making a
home.

Terrific read! Inventive! Informative! Could not put it down. Incredible use of science in fiction.
Jeff Holden is Odysseus the wanderer, doing his best to find out what is causing a virulent storm.
Does he come home? Does the wanderer come home? What insight awaits?

This is what a science fiction book should be: more about the story than the ego (or paycheck) of the author.

I want Spielberg to make it into a movie!
