Travelling in a straight line, it would pass through the door, if the door were open, and finally hit the gong! You see now the importance of Miss Cardwell’s statement? No one else heard the first gong, but, then, her room is situated immediately above this one, and she was in the best position for hearing it. It would consist of only one single note, remember. There could be no question of Sir Gervase’s shooting himself.

An unabridged Poirot mystery. taken from the collection Murder in the Mews 'Good night for a murder,' Inspector Japp remarked to Hercule Poirot as they walked home from a dinner on Guy Fawkes Night. Agatha Christie and I go back to my teenage years (now retired), and I am so happy to be reading her again on my Kindle. I love pitting myself against Hercule Poirot. It's a classic whodunit, great plot...induction and deduction...no foul language and no gore. Great read!

The skills of observation and putting the observed items into a story of how and who are the same for Hercule and Sherlock. The fact all the observed items are also available to the reader yet the reader can't solve the murder himself or herself create a mood of anticipation until the moment of unveiling so the reader can see the clues observed earlier and, "of course" now it all falls on place. "How come I didn't see that?

I have always liked mysteries and crime novels. I love Sherlock, Columbo, the Pink Panther series, and many many tv shows on the subject. Then recently someone told me to try Poirot. So I did. This was my first of his novels. I really liked it. So then I checked out the PBS series. Love it too.

Ms. Christie writes in such a way that the characters just pop into life. I can picture the characters, hear their voices, and see their surroundings in all kinds of detail. And I found it to be a quick read.

I liked it so much that I bought the complete collection of all the Poirot novels. Can't wait to get started on the next story.

This was a mildly entertaining little novella...the first Agatha Christie story I've read. I found the characters fairly superficial, and the setting felt generic, but the culprit in the murder was a surprise to me. With a mystery, I suppose that means it was successful. Overall, it held my interest enough that I didn't skim any parts.

Tightly wound and impeccable mystery set at an English country house. Family intrigue and a locked-door suicide/murder? Truly enjoyed it. Christie had a deft and precise hand. Well worth the price.

I am slowly reading through all the murder mysteries by Agatha Christie published by Harper Collins in an attractive paperback format. The covers of these books are beautiful! The Christie series is reasonably priced and will afford readers hours of lighthearted British murder cases. Murder in the Mews was published in 1937. The four cases are:
1. Murder in the Mews-A woman is found dead in her apartment without any explanation of whodunit until Hercule Poirot is called in to investigate.
2. The Incredible Theft-The story reminds this reviewer of the The Naval Treaty story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The plot deals with the theft of an important letter which will determine whether a politician involved has a future in his government.
3. Dead Man's Mirror-A rich old man is found dead in his study. Conflicting reports as to his mood during the day and who among the guests at his estate may have had a motive to slay the chap.
4. Triangle at Rhodes-A marital triangle leads to foul murder but theending will surprise you.
A pleasant diversion of old Agatha Christie stories.

I love the adventures of Poirot. He is the best character of Agatha Christie. This was a wonderful story. I couldn't put the book down. Loved it and highly recommend it.
How can you give Agatha Christie anything but five stars. Her stories are magnificent. At this point of my career I am studying them.
