A Monstrous Regiment of Women is the second book in the Mary Russell series of mystery novels by Laurie R. King.
A Monstrous Regiment of Women is the second book in the Mary Russell series of mystery novels by Laurie R. The title is taken from a work by John Knox, published in 1558, The First Blast of the Trumpet Against the Monstrous Regimen of Women. Knox used the word regimen in an archaic sense to mean government or régime, and his tract was written against the female sovereigns of his day, particularly Mary I of England and Mary, Queen of Scots.
A Monstrous Regiment of Women book. The theology background and information was very interesting to me too. I care about Sherlock Holmes and I am not put off by the author's treatment of him. It is a bit different to read him as a secondary character, so I have to keep reminding myself when he is not present.
A Monstrous Regiment of Women. Written by Laurie R. Narrated by Jenny Sterlin. While visiting London, Mary Russell comes across a friend from Oxford. The young woman introduces Mary to Margery Childe, charismatic leader of a religious sect involved in the suffrage movement.
What gives Laurie R. King's books such a rich and original texture is the character of Mary-totally believable in her own right, a tall and gangling orphan with a restless intellect and a great store of moral and physical courage. Mary Russell makes a triumphant return.
Laurie R. King; Read By Jenny Sterlin. Praise for A Monstrous Regiment of Women. The great marvel of King's series is that she's managed to preserve the integrity of Holmes's character and yet somehow conjure up a woman astute, edgy, and compelling enough to be the partner of his mind and as well as his heart.
