This was the first ever Lisa Jewell book I read, many years ago now and I really loved it. I had just moved to London and this and other books in the same genre really kept me company in the big, bad scary city. The characters are wonderful and the story is both heartbreaking and funny.

We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

A Friend of the Family.

Meet the Bird FamilyAll four children have an idyllic childhood: a picture-book cottage in a country village, a warm, cosy kitchen filled with love and laughter, sun-drenched afternoons in a rambling garden. But one Easter weekend a tragedy strikes the Bird family that is so devastating that, almost imperceptibly, it begins to tear them apart. The years pass and the children. Now Lisa Jewell is back on the scene with her funniest novel yet. One-Hit Wonder takes you into the thrill-a-minute life of a disco diva-and the dreary life of her mousy younger sister.

Lisa Jewell is the Sunday Times bestselling author of sixteen books, including her most recent novel, the Sunday Times bestseller Watching You. She lives in London with her husband and two children. Библиографические данные.

I was eleven years old when you came along and thought that the world revolved around me. Everyone expected me to be so jealous of you but I loved you from the first moment I set eyes on you.

Lisa Jewell were so tiny and weak in that incubator and I thought that I would die if anything happened to you. I’d just started my periods at the time and I remember thinking how I could have been your mother. When you came home I wanted you all to myself. I thought you were mine.

A great story about two very different sisters. Lisa Jewell is a clever story teller. I like the way she gradually gives the reader important information and tells two stories, past and present concurrently. One- Hit-Wonder had me hooked from the first page and I literally couldn't put it down!

I could not get through this whole book. I would pick it up read a few pages, put it down and repeat cycle. I got so fed up with it that I gave it to my mom to read. She didn't make it through either. The actual plot line has great premise but I think its poorly written style keeps it from being great.
