"Marketing is particularly thrilling when you come up with a bright idea, carry it through, and, as a result, enjoy a boost in your book's sales." ~ Jacqueline Deval

Jacqueline Deval is obviously an expert in her field and her book is mostly for authors who have published professionally and have a physical book to sell. This book is not really for self-published authors although some of the resources could be useful. Basically what this book does is it takes you by the hand and leads you through the world of interviews, TV appearances, speaking engagements and book signings. This is serious stuff that authors have to do to make their books a success.

Why should people read your book?
How can you stir up controversy about your book?
What are the nine mistakes authors make?
What type of questions should you ask a publicist?
What should you wear to TV interviews?

This book covers all this and more.

What is especially helpful is all the information on how to work with a publicist and how to contact the media. This book emphasizes treating people well and explains how you can make a good impression.

Basically this book gives you some insight into the publishing process and tells you what to expect. This is information you'd want to hear from a friend who has been published. Jacqueline Deval is that friend. As someone who has been interviewed for TV I can tell you the advice in this book is great.

lets go baby
As a novelist, I'm often disappointed in books that offer advice on how to publicize your books, since most of them are geared toward nonfiction and have very little to offer writers of fiction. Jacqueline Deval's book, however, deals with both types of books. Though there are clearly more publicity opportunities for authors of nonfiction, Deval has helped me create a marketing plan for my upcoming novel The Black Garden and has shown me how to create great talking points for interviews and book signing. It also provides a great list of on-line marketing opportunities. I highly recommend this book.

Because I'm a first time author, I've read several of these kinds of books about publicity and marketing in an attempt to educate myself about the business of writing. So far, Jacqueline Deval's book is the best. I didn't feel overwhelmed or discouraged after reading it (as with some other books out there); instead, I felt inspired, informed and eager to get started on my marketing plan. The author puts forward her ideas and suggestions very clearly, and conveys an encouraging tone to the reader. It's still very current (published April 2003), so the web sites listed in her book are easily accessible, and the information is up to date. I recommend this how-to manual over any other book of its kind on the market.

This is a great book to get writers into the marketing mindset. It has given me many different ideas for marketing my own books, and even though some of it is a little outdated now, many of the principles still apply. It's a good read!

This book is a must for any entrepreneur looking to create publicity. It is the best book out there. It provides tools, ideas, facts and most importanly contacts. The writer makes it simple and easy to understand. It is a fantastic easy to read resource. It should belong in every serious marketing and publicty library.

It's the right book to read to attract attention to your book. Full of great marketing and PR advice.
This book is designed for the conventionally published author using the legacy system. It is full of advice about how to pester you publisher and publicist, and how to hire an independent publicist to support your publisher; but it doesn't tell you how to publicize a book. The book also makes the claim that eBooks were a flash in the pan, and are dying out while the just the opposite is true - just ask Boarders. Paradoxically, many of the resources she recommends are no longer in business.

As an independent author, I am still looking for a good book on publicity and sells.
