Database Systems: Design, Implementation, and Management Hardcover – 2004. by. Peter Rob (Author).

Database Systems: Design, Implementation, and Management, Seventh Edition is one of the most comprehensive database textbooks available. The proven success of database design treatment is sustained and further improved in this revision. The proven Parts organizations streamline the chapter coverage, so it is an ideal choice for your classroom. Each Part opens with a new business vignette, which provides real world examples to engage your students. The new edition includes updates in every chapter as well as added exercises and cases. There are new chapters such as Advanced Modeling Concepts, Database Performance Tuning and Query Optimization, and Database Connectivity and Web Development. In the seventh edition you will find examples of database usage, which highlights eBAY for compelling context. In our new Query Optimization chapter, we cover database performance tuning concepts, index selectivity and SQL coding practices. There is added EERD coverage such as clusters and subtype discriminator attributes. With the authors' strong writing style and outstanding balance of theory and practice, this is just a small sampling of the improvements we have made to the new edition of Database Systems: Design, Implementation, and Management by Peter Rob and Carlos Coronel.

Database Systems: Design, Implementation, and Management.

I have mixed feelings about this text. This edition has very little additional information to offer than the previous edition. It did include additional UML (Unified Modeling Language) coverage and some extra attention was given to SQL Server functions in this edition.

I actually emailed my professor prior to class and asked if I could buy the previous edition to save $100 and the professor said that it shouldn’t be an issue. I usually recommend that to students who take a lot of tech classes; if there is a huge price difference ($50 +) from one edition to the next, email the professor and see if the new version is absolutely essential.

Prior to this course, I didn’t have a lot of database experience so I think this book could have done a better job catering to newbies, like myself, and 99% of my course mates. I feel like I had to play a little catch up before getting into some of the materials. I thought the hands-on components were very helpful, the book had a lot of relevant examples and exercises. I like the overviews at the beginning of each chapter and the key terms at the end of the chapters. Overall, I think the book was okay, but could have been a little more user-friendlier. This book is well made, good quality, nice layout/visual design, especially for a text on databases.

Thanks for reading my review. I hope this is helpful to you.

This book is easy to read and follow, and allows for an easy to follow class in Database. This book contains everything you need, so it also makes a great textbook for learning the topic on your own. The book offers numerous examples and easy to follow screenshots and diagrams. This book allows the reader to use the glossary to easily find what they are looking for an easy to follow categories. At the end of each chapter their are also easy to find keywords with page numbers, making finding specific topics a breeze (great for when in class).

In the end this is a great book for learning Database Systems it touches on every subject needed and provides full color screenshots and easy to read and follow diagrams! I highly recommend this for learning Database Systems or as a great reference book for any one looking to refresh themselves with the topic!

This book is very well structured. The first six chapters deals with basic data design concepts and implementation planning. The following chapters introduces SQL commands and Oracle commands. At the end of the reading, I feel the need to re-read the text in order to position my knowledge as an expert. One key failure of the book is their online content and student website has nothing to offer. The website has some good tutorials which will enable one to understand SQL.

Bought this as a textbook for my college class. It is the exact same book and version from the same author(s) and manufacturer as the textbook needed for my class. I try to buy all my college textbooks from Amazon because they are always cheaper, in both new and used conditions, than in the university bookstore.

This course textbook is good to learn about the basics of database you create, manage, and manipulate. But, it really does not tell you everything you need to know about statements, etc. You would have to go online and/or other sources in order to get the information you need/want.

Excellent condition A+
Bought this book, this was a required textbook for my class. Ninth addition was required, this was the seventh and it worked just fine. Slight difference in problem numbering, but the rest is the same. Ten times cheaper then 9th addition.
