Foner is again in good form here, covering some crucial years in the labor movement, especially the . government's mostly successful efforts to crush the IWW, the socialist party, and most international solidarity in the . labor movement broadly. I'm all out of adjectives to describe this series: magisterial, mammoth, titanic, comprehensive, long-winded. Foner covers them well in his usual academic style. The larger problem with all these books is that they do not offer much in the way of overarching analysis of what is happening.
