The surgical ellipse lengths, widths, and vertex angles were analyzed, and the data were compared to a mathematical formula used to generate a fusiform ellipse. Results: The length-to-width ratio of 3 - 4 was found to be inconsistent with the recommended vertex angle of 30o. In fact, a length-to-width ratio of 3 - 4 determines a vertex angle of 48o - 63o. A 30o vertex angle is only feasible with long length-to-width ration of about . Evidence from actual surgical practice and from mathematical formulation shows that either the length-to-width ratio must be larger than 3 - 4 or the vertex angle must be larger than 30 degrees.

Plastic surgery, which originated through the efforts of a small specialist group to hide facial blemishes and correct visible deformities, was applied with great success during World War II for the treatment of wounds in general. The revised edition of this textbook of surgical techniques gives an account of various types of plastic surgery, describing those methods which the author has found work best in practice. He has included a descrption of the difficulties and complications which may occur together with how they can be avoided and how to cope with them when they do occur. Its approach is essentially practical, dealing with the choice of incision, stitchcraft, avoidance of ugly scars and methods of skin grafting, and their application to different types of surgery, notably casualty, burns and orthopaedics.

Arrived quickly and in excellent condition. The book itself is a must-have for anyone training to become a plastic surgeon or even established surgeons looking to update their skills.

Great book for 1st year interns, just starting the specialty. This edition does not have the maxilo-facial surgery that the 9th ed. had. Also, i dind't find any new content, not even small changes. So, great if you don't have the 9th ed, bad if you do.

It is the very essence of our specialty. Clever tips and tricks originally written by one of the most distinguished pioneers in the field of reconstructive plastic surgery, Ian McGregor. He was one of the fine surgeons that built the Canniesburn legacy. An excellent surgeon and the teacher of a myriad of followers. Ian Jackson and David Soutar to name a few. Even though I miss the chapter of head and neck reconstruction from the previous edition it is one of my favorite short textbooks of plastic surgery. This book is an outstanding base for the understanding of plastic surgery principles.
