This book gave me a more honest and factual account of John Turnow than any of the stories and legends floating around our neighborhood. The book is easy reading and keeps you interested.

I would say that this is one of the most accurate and honest books on the subject. Ron went to school with several of the descendants of folks involved in this event in history. He was best friends with my father Bill Quimby, Giles Quimby's nephew. I believe I have every book ever written on the subject and the Wild West Trading Cards. If you are ever in that area of Washington, several years ago, a young man working on his Eagle Scout Badge, did a lot of work, to track stuff into the dense forest and they did a reenactment of the day that John Tornow was killed by Giles Quimby. You can go to the spot and they have it marked historically. They have a rock placed with items of John's embedded in it. Duffy's in Aberdeen Washington, the owner Ralph Larson, is quite the history buff. He has all of the books available there for purchase and also has the reenactment on a DVD (it is a tad corny).
It really is unfortunate, Tornow obviously had mental issues, and like today (political statement) people with mental illness rarely get help. He was institutionalized for a long while, before he moved in with his sister's family and got so close to the twins, however, he should never have been released!! Fair story, but there is a lot of speculation in the story line. It lacks much literary skills and could have used a lot more research to develop the story to what it might have been. Probably worth it only if you're seeking to expand what you know on the John Turnow incidents.
