Miriam Marx Allen was born in New York in 1927. These letters from a father to his daughter show an openness and honesty, a presumed closeness with his daughter that at first blush seems an uncommonly close connection, continuing across distances. She grew up in Beverly Hills and now lives in San Clemente, California. How many parents would simply write "We had burgers for dinner, I hope you are fine, how's the cat?" What a contrast this collection shows.

The famed Groucho Marx's daughter Miriam Marx Allen saved virtually every letter her father wrote to her between 1938 and 1967. The letters reveal a caring, level-headed family man constantly worried about money and career. The problem with this audio presentation lies in the dull parade of uninterest-ing letters and equally dull anecdotes by Miriam Marx Allen. After a while, one truly stops caring about the problems of this father and daughter. This is a shame because boring is something Groucho Marx never ever was.

Groucho Marx is known for his letter writing. This collection is great, but not as good as The Groucho Letters. Since these are only to his daughter, Miriam, they don't reflect aspects of his personality that show up in The Groucho Letters, which are collected from diverse people, family, friends, and other show people, not to mention Warner Brothers during a law suit.

But I love this collection because Groucho comes across as a loving and concerned parent who can't get enough of his children. He is supportive, generous, thoughtful and witty.

Gift for my sister and she loved it

Great to see the sweeter side of Groucho and fascinating to hear about the difficulties of being the daughter of such a public figure.

Miriam Marx has been quite gracious in letting us in to the family's private world to read her father's letters. He was a great letter-writer, as evidenced by other collections, and a great writer in general, having published several books. The Groucho Letters: Letters from and to Groucho Marx,Memoirs Of A Mangy Lover,Groucho And Me. His wit and intelligence carry through.

Well worth the read - as is seemingly anything that Mr. Marx wrote - and it is worth thanking Ms. Marx for publishing the collection.

Thought I was ordering a book to borrow through the premier membership program with Amazon, so was discouraged when I saw that I had been charged for the book. While it presents a, perhaps, little known side of Groucho the letters get generally very repetitive, and the hoped for humorous "gems" that only Grouch could deliver are few and far between.

I didn't expect this book to become my favorite Groucho Marx book but it did. It shows a side of Groucho that you can't find anywhere else.

I found the letters to be a very good insight to Groucho and his family life. I had a particular interest in reading about his 2nd marriage to Kay Dittig Gorcey Marx and was pleased to learn more about her.
Well done, Miriam!
I love Groucho!!! Grew up on You Bet Your Life, and his humor was one of a kind!
