Kung Fu for Girls is your guide to the art of self-defience with control, power, and, of course, style. Self defense with style, truly! Published by Thriftbooks. com User, 14 years ago. The title is a misnomer; it's not Kung Fu, it's women's self defense. You can tell the difference because Kung Fu doesn't involve biting people's noses or end every kata with a groin strike. Women's self defense teaches you to use moves that are effective but unlikely to injure you when you use them, since it has to work even for people who are a bit out of shape.

Kung Fu for Girls is your guide to the art of self-defience with control, power, and, of course, style. You already have all of the tools─from your arms, head, butt, and legs to your cell phone, keys, high heels, and handbag─now learn how to use them!   With this simple, stylish course in essential kung fu moves, you’ll gain the knowledge and confidence you need to stand up to any situation and keep you and your friends out of harm’s way. Stash the book in your handbag─don’t go out on the town without it!

It was a gift - so I really do not know - that is why its a 3 - I have not heard anything negative, nor positive from who I gave it to.

What more can I say, this is a small, useful and informative book with pictures, guides, (and humor) to teach you how to use some simple techniques (and items) to help prevent attackers from harming you anywhere.

It illistrates techniques that will help you if you are standing, sitting, or even have fallen asleep on the subway. Guides you through blocking attacks from all sides. As the book points out as well - having confidence in yourself and a good amount of self esteem combined with these moves you're chances of being targetted will dramatically decrease.

If you can't sign up for a class I'd recommend all women and girls at least take the time to go through this book and PRACTICE the techniques with friends!

I bought this book thinking it would help me defend myself in case of emergency. It does more than that! This little book teaches you how to block attacks, where to strike back and how to defend yourself in a knife attack. Savvy, smart and really honest, this book can help you avoid being raped or injured if you or a friend is being attacked.

Being attacked is a big threat, especially if your petite like me. After reading and practicing the moves in this book, I feel comfortable that I would know how to react in the case that I was attacked, even though I am on the smaller side.

Nothing compares to taking a real class, but this book will help in case of emergency.

I recently bought this book for a friend, as she needed assistance when playfully brawling with her brother. Obviously, this is not the intended purpose of the book. However, upon reading it before handing it over, I was really impressed. I own a lot of martial arts related materials, books and dvds, and this ranks up near the top.

That sounds semi-ridiculous that Kung Fu for Girls is one of the best materials I own, but it is the absolute truth. It is simple and direct, and the information it gives is true to Kung Fu. It discusses Centerline Theory that you would learn from Wing Chun, and advises Open-palmed strikes to keep from breaking the hand.

A lot of the techniques in the book are creative and cool, things you wouldn't normally think about. In addition, even though I am a guy, it seemed like it was really written for women. Oppose to many materials which are written like their audience is men. Small and short book, but a great companion to something like Gracie Jiu-Jitsu: Women Empowered.
