This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. There is a lot of financial chicanery in these stories and some work better than others. Jack and the Check Book, the story, seemed to be about the joy of check kiting.

There is a lot of financial chicanery in these stories and some work better than others. The problem is that the answer for the poor to even hope to beat the ultra rich, they need the help of fantasy creatures. THis is probably true, but not the most enjoyable reading.

I found this to be a strange retelling of the Jack and the beanstalk story. Unlike others written in this era like Alice in Blunderland. I think you need to fully understand the economy during the time it was written. I found many jokes and sections, which seem to have a humorous intent, falling flat. It's rather short though. If you are a fan of fairy tales and are familiar with the original story, it is interesting to see what is changed and what aspects stay the same.

This OLD story is a knock-off of "Jack and the Beanstalk," It rips the early 20th century's obsession with money and has a good message about what happens to a person driven by greed. (If only it were true!) I think it is really interesting to read stories from America's early capitalist/industrial period, and this is definitely one.
