As the founder of Canine Assistants, Arnold has implemented and advanced a methodology-Choice Teaching-that pairs scientific and behavioral knowledge about dogs with gentle incentive and encouragement to extraordinary effect. But she does not consider herself a dog trainer; rather, she sees herself as a relationship expert who improves the connection between humans and dogs and in the process betters the quality of life for both. She answered them and more questions 'In A Dog's Heart' by Jennifer Arnold is a very special book.

Compassionate Canine Care is a loving professional bonded and insured pet care service provi. She sent us pictures, videos and texted us updates on her visits and how he was doing. This was the first time that we had ever left our dog home by himself, and allowed someone to come into our home to care for him while we were gone. Maria made us feel very comfortable and gave us so much reassurance with her reports. We knew we had done the right thing by keeping him at home and having her stop in to care for him. I would absolutely recommend Maria’s services!! You can really tell she loves dogs and really cares about what she does!

AN INDISPENSABLE GUIDE FOR ANY DOG OWNER—NEW OR SEASONED  Jennifer Arnold has come to a unique understanding of the human-dog bond over the two decades she has spent raising and training service dogs for Canine Assistants. She developed a methodology—Choice Teaching—that pairs scientific and behavioral knowledge about dogs with gentle incentive and encouragement to extraordinary effect. Here Arnold shares   • how to choose the puppy that’s destined for you and what to have on hand before you bring that puppy home • best practices when it comes to teaching your dog essential and even lifesaving commands • what to stock in your doggie first-aid kit • how to keep your pet safe from dangers at home and in the outside world • how to help your dog overcome anxious behavior, from separation anxiety to thunderstorm phobia • the challenges and rewards of adopting an older dog   Throughout the book are captivating stories of the extraordinary ways in which dogs prove themselves worthy of our care and devotion—and how we can, and why we should, help them achieve what they so deserve.   “This guide is as practical as it is wise, a keeper book for ready reference.”—Susannah Charleson, author of Scent of the Missing: Love and Partnership with a Search-and-Rescue Dog   “An informative and entertaining book . . . [Arnold’s] insightful words provide knowledge every dog owner needs.”—Publishers Weekly

I am tired of people believing that Cesar Millan is a dog trainer because National Geographic hyped him. This book tells about some of the tragic results of his "dominate the dog at all costs" credo. Jennifer Arnold's husband and a veterinarian on page 106 is quoted,"My husband believes that the alpha philosophy, such as it is, can be summed up concisely: Everything a dog ever does is because of dominance, and the only solution is dominance."

On page 92, "Most important, we must move past the notion that dogs and humans are somehow adversaries and that we must dominate them before they dominate us. It's a concept that is killing our dogs."

This book shows how to understand your dog and create a mutually respectful and loving relationship. It is not about letting your dog run wild. It is about creating teamwork between two very different species, human and canine. I found it immensely helpful when working with my Ridgeback mix rescue.

I'm 73 and have had dogs my whole life. Each dog has had a different personality. Some have been smart and some not too bright. They have all, fortunately, been lovable. I think people, who have not had dogs and get one finally, approach their dogs fearfully, thinking they might do something wrong and ruin the whole relationship, but a well loved dog will probably be a good dog.

Having said that, this book is a huge aid to training your dog as well as a help to those meeting dogs they don't know.

The book also has touching anecdotes of successful dogs doing good works. All people, dog owners or not, will benefit.

The author trains assistance dogs. There is a shortage of them. The techniques she uses are ones we can all use. Not too bad with children either.

I love, love, love this book! I thought I was pretty knowledgeable when it comes to dog nutrition and the dog food companies and what to watch out for. I was surprised about even more information that I had ever known, that is vital and important to all pets!

Jennifer Arnold gives us insight to her training methods, and tells what sets her apart from the others in her industry. As always her books are easy to read and a joy. I feel like I know her personally just from reading her books. Luckily she shares her knowledge with the rest of the world. She is truly an angel in this world. DOG BLESS!

This book has reinforced what I have always known about dogs but could not articulate. We adopted a 13 month old Yorkie that had lived most of first year in a puppy mill. She was half starved and all head and eyes. She was afraid of everyone and every thing. She did not know what a toy was or how to play. Every noise was stressful. I was the only one allowed to hold her for months. Every meal she acted like it would be her last. She went from 2.5 to 10.2 pounds in two years, but my husband just couldn't resist those begging eyes and would not limit her food. She recently died at the young age of seven with congestive heart failure and a huge liver tumor. We will miss her forever but we gave her a great life and she gave us all her love and devotion. It was not easy to house train her and she had issues with children and people coming into the house but she was a more devoted and loving dog that you would ever believe if you saw her when she first came to us. This book was great and every person should read it so they can appreciate what dogs give to us who love them.
