This is an exceptional book! So many guides are written about "specific" breeds that end up really being very general.
If you ever had a Gordon Setter you know that there is nothing "general" about these dogs. You know you need all the guidance you can get with specific information about everything from behavior and training to health and diet. This book has all of that! Also detailed info on showing and hunting if you are interested in those things. It is truly an excellent guide to raising these wonderful dogs and a very helpful companion. We were crying and laughing how perfect the descriptions and dog stories are, and reading through the chapters felt like talking to a fellow Gordon owner, except with someone with decades of experience. Highly recommend!

This is a very well written and very informative book. Written with some humor but matter of fact and covers every question that someone new to gordons would have. They cover a wide range of topics that touch every subject from pups starting in the field, the show ring, first aid, care of breeding stock etc.The amount of information is fabulous and I recommend it to any Gordon owner - beginner or seasoned vetran!!

It not only tells you how to train a Gordon Setter (or any other pointing breed of the finest quality field stock), but also how to pick a pup, when to train, how to deal with different personalities (yours and the dogs), showing, field trialing, and breeding. In short the essential guide for anyone interested in getting the most from a great hunting dog. The book is written in such a way that even a first time bird dog owner can understand and come away with a "I can do this!" attitude. A must read for anyone considering the purchase of a "hunting companion." Thanks Sue and Norm!

After being owned by a Gordon for seven years and now re-reading the book, it is obvious how well the Sorbys know these dogs. They have great insight into the inner workings of the mind of the Gordon in how the dog deals with other dogs, training, field and confirmation competitions. I do not hunt but these are great dogs and the book is as close to an owner's manual as you can get. I wish children came with a book like this.
