Readers can count on Rodale books to be practical and detailed and to advocate organic gardening. While Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Perennials does give information, as you would expect from Rodale, on soil building, climate, propagation and nontoxic pest and disease control, its emphasis is on design.

As a true "beginner" gardener I have tried several books to help me learn how to care for plants and employ proper gardening techniques. Most books cover many bases...annuals, vegetables, trees, etc. Since my primary interest is perennials, this book does not waste pages on the subjects I m not interested in. I was very impressed with the clear explanations and illustrations. This book gets down to basics and is great for beginners.

We have tons of flower books so I very seldom remember all the books. But this one was filled with info and beautiful flowers. It is hard to rate a flower book as sometimes I don't look at them but once or twice a year. Especially at planting time. But Rodale's is always a good bet if you are looking for information.

I ordered this book because I was constantly borrowing my friend's book. I am thrilled that now I have my very own copy of Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia. Hope others do the same.

I bought this book when I first started my perennial garden, never having gardened before. It guided me in soil preparation, siting, and plant selection in those early days, and it has continued to be a reference tool ever since. If you're just starting out, buy this along with Maconovich's Caring For Perennials and you won't need a single other book. If you're a seasoned gardener, my advice is still the same!

This book is really good shows and names most plants.

Wow, so many flowers. I really enjoy learning more and love all the instructions for taking care of my garden. Recommend it for anyone who likes flowers that do not have to be replanted every year. Just cut, cover, and wait for spring. Kudos to the seller.
Great book. I am just getting into the world of perennials and have found this to be a perfect resource that covers a huge variety of topics I am interested in like basic botany, garden design and maintenance, etc. And, of course, there is what appears to me a comprehensive, A to Z, and totally accessible list of perennials occupying the back 1/3 of the book.
