I bought this book after looking at another book on quilted feathers. The person reviewing the other book suggested that Infinite Feathers was a better book and she was absolutely right, Infinite Feathers Quilting Designs is the authoritative book on quilting feathers. I bought one of the feather templates from Anita Shackelford's site after finding out about it in the back of this book. This book explains how to create feather designs that are made with a central shape such as a heart, or circle as well as traditional feather options. I bought it to specifically to make a heart shaped feather. The template really helps me get the correct angle going around a shape. There are plenty of examples in the book and with the additional template it makes it so easy to experiment in my sketchbook before taking it to my quilt. I would recommend this book and template if you want to move your quilting feathers to the next level.

If you want to learn how to do feathers, Anita Shackelford's Infinite Feathers Quilting Designs will show you how in a concise no-nonsense manner. She covers all the variations, including rosettes, wreathes, lyres, paisleys and more. There is even a section of more complex motifs such as rose buds, pine trees, and butterflies. Shackelford explains the various ways of drafting, marking, and transferring the quilting designs, plus she offers tips for fitting patterns to accommodate different parts of the quilt top.

You might want to know that more than half of this book is devoted strictly to the actual black and white patterns. There is also an 11 page gallery, and while the quilts are beautiful, the photography in several makes it very difficult to perceive the feathered quilting. Still, a very nice book for instruction and inspiration.

I am a new machine quilter and love the look of feathers. The clear instructions and tips have been very helpful. Since I am just starting to learn how to machine quilt I would have liked to have had a little help in what direction to quilt the designs provided. Small arrows on the patterns would be great. I am very pleased with my progress so far following the steps Shackelford outlines and know I will keep this reference book close at hand for a long time to come.

I love this book because it gives so many ways to incorporate feathers into your quilting. It offers tips on several types and methods of feathers. It also helps me to "get out of the box" by showing me how to place feathers in areas I'd never thought of before!
