Just got this book and I can already say it is one of the most comprehensive, informative and clearly written books I own. From the very beginning it lays out what you need and why, what you can use that you have in place of pricey purchases, exact amounts, uses and firing times and techniques for every brand and type of clay as well as simple troubleshooting to ensure success in this fascinating medium!

Each step of the way is a clear photo with explanation of technique which is great for many learning styles. I know with the detailed explanations I do not need to be afraid to move forward and actually USE those precious packages of metal clay I have purchased!! There are also sections detailing working with paper sheets of metal clay, combining clays, 3D projects and assemblage, beautiful lockets, and so many projects to get your creativity to the next level.

This was actually worth the money. Clear instructions, good tips and covers a multitude of areas. It actually explains about firing schedules which is a real plus as everything I have researched so far on the subject was so not helpful.

I am a newbie to metal clay (I have worked extensively with polymer clay) and I have to say that this is one of the most comprehensive books I have come across. The rest of the reviews tell it all and there is not much more I can add. The book is not only full of beautiful photographs but the detailed instructions and descriptions are very useful. If you are wanting to get into metal clay or want some design ideas, I highly recommend this book. I also own Sue's "How to make silver charms from metal clay" book which compliments this book very nicely. Thank you Sue for the excellent book that got me started in metal clay.

I found this book to be an invaluable tool for techniques used by both beginners and advanced artists. I am a teacher, and intend to share it with my beginning students. There are no projects outlined for you to do, which allows you to use your own creativity to practice the techniques. Easy reading and easy instructions.

Haha I bought this for Mom for Christmas, and she almost had to take it away from me. The idea of working clay into metal pieces is the coolest in itself, and the way this book's put together makes it a fun read and it even looks like it'd work as a reference. I'm going to try to peek over her shoulder at least when she starts using it, even though she hates that.

The book explains everything a beginner needs to know about using metal clay, plus helpful tips for those still learning. Many close up pictures, which really help to understand the techniques. No actual step by step projects, but pictures of finished projects and so many ideas that will open your mind so you can create your own jewelry.

This is a very comprehensive and easy to follow guide. A friend just took a workshop in precious metal clay that cost $145 for one day. I opted for the book instead and I am well pleased.

This is a beautifully compiled book. The pictures and examples are wonderfully arranged and very clear. The book offers an excellent description of various clay types, their pros, cons, and uses which is helpful for a beginner trying to understand what type of material to purchase. The organization of this book into projects (rings, lockets, hinges, beads, etc) is also very well done. Each section provides an introduction, materials needed (the book covers all tools and materials in the intro), and steps to take to work through various projects. I especially appreciated the sections on maintaining, reworking, and recycling clay. These are important steps when working with clay in general and it's great the authors start with these fundamentals.
