The Mystery of the Church : The Pilgrimage of an Orthodox Convert. Professor Bush has written the most uplifting and at the same tome informative book on. the Orthodox Church I have ever read

The Mystery of the Church : The Pilgrimage of an Orthodox Convert. the Orthodox Church I have ever read.

William Bush's unadorned and concentrated understanding of the mystery of sacrifice hands this book a beautiful and finally essential aspect in revealing the holocaust of sixteen nuns against even Reason - Who bore the sons that made the madness. Bush wisely makes a book about more than religion and murder, and creates a perfect moving stream out of tidal events, making an awfully effective read.

William and Lanfranc understood each other thoroughly; and neither the king nor the archbishop had the slightest intention of surrendering to Rome a jot of their own authority in England. Whatever Hildebrand may have expected, the papal demand that William should acknowledge himself as holding England as a fief of Rome met with courteous but unqualified rejection. I picked up this delightful tome at a second-hand bookstore in Calgary, Canada, some years ago.

Have you been disheartened by the many recent controversies in the Orthodox Church? Do you wonder how we Orthodox can be "The Church of the Ages" while being divided between "ethnic" jurisdictions, let alone factions labeled "fundamentalist" or "modern," "Old Calendar" or "Ecumenist"? Does your faith need to be rejuvinated? If so, we have good news for you. We are delighted to introduce The Mystery of the Church, Professor William Bush's long awaited, remarkable book on Orthodoxy, our church's history and the true spiritual meaning of being Orthodox. Often, I have wondered how the prayer of Jesus in John 17 was answered regarding the call to Oneness of The ONE Bride of Christ, His Church. Amazingly, this book opened my eyes in ways I had not thought of before, even after preaching in evangelical churches for over 23 years and reading many of the original Christian writings of the 1st through 4th century.

This book challenges the modern Roman catholic and nondenominational or protestant mindset with the reality that we have had ONE FAITH, ONE LORD, ONE BAPTISM for 2000 years and That Christ has been the Head of His ONE BODY for over 2000 years, keeping her, preserving her , and revealing His LIFE through her in a Mystery, we know as "The Church".

This goes beyond organizational heierarchial systems of Roman Catholicism into the supernatural Mysterion of the working of The Holy Spirit in keeping Christ's Church faithful for 2000 years despite numerous attacks from without and specially from within.

In my humble opinion, there is no other book on the market like this one!

Thank you William.

humbly in Christ,
Anthony

As someone who was received into the Orthodox Church a year ago, I am perhaps
reading this book at the perfect moment. This fellow pilgrim on the journey
has perfectly described the Mystery of the Church and of Christ as it can only
be experienced within the fullness of Holy Orthodoxy.

As a recognized scholar of both Catholic writer George Bernanos and of the
Carmelite martyrs of the French Revolution, the author also knows what he's
talking about when it comes to the Roman Church. He describes with great accuracy
the Bishop of Rome's turning away from Orthodoxy, resulting in the Great Schism and
the eventual Protestant Reformation.

The book is crowned with the author's description of his own journey to Orthodoxy
from his Baptist upbringing through his sojourn as an Anglo-Catholic. The description
of his spiritual friendship with Sophia Zernova in Paris is riveting and vividly depicts
how Orthodoxy is transmitted from human heart to human heart, just as the faith was delivered
to the saints during the time of Christ and His Holy Apostles.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough -- not as an "intro" to Orthodoxy but as an
utter delight for those (whether "officially" Orthodox or not) who have already fallen in love
with Christ and His Church. For those (and you know who you are), this book is a great blessing.
