Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern" (How lovely shines the morning star) is a hymn by Philipp Nicolai written in 1597 and first published in 1599. The hymn for Pentecost "O Heilger Geist, kehr bei uns ein" by Michael Schirmer is sung to the same tune. The words in seven stanzas are based on Psalms 45, a mystical wedding song. Jesus is identified with the morning star, according to Revelation 22:16, and with the bridegroom of the psalm. Nicolai wrote the words in response to a pestilence in 1597

The history of the camp, a section comprising the Haggadah recreation and the overview of the post-camp experience of some survivors is a valuable contribution to the Annals of Jewish History. This is a clear reason why Yad Vashem has contributed to the publication of this work.
It is important for anybody interested in this aspect of modern Jewish History, perhaps those interested in this aspect of Modern French history.

I bought it for an elderly lady who went through that camp. Also the dramatic description of the prisoners' condition and the points of heroism, makes it a worthy book even if some parts of it seem superfluous.

This Haggadah brought to life the camp in which my grandfather died. Gurs is a camp that I was never really able to learn much about before I read this book.
