Disciples at Prayer book.

The copious footnotes of the latter book make it more of a study tool than most translations.

This movement, considered by church historians to be the largest religious body indigenous to the United States, has spawned three principle bodies: The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Churches of Christ, and (Independent) Christian Churches and Churches of Christ. Members of the translation team for the Old Testament included Dr. William C. Gwaltney, Jr. (Milligan College) and Dr. John T. Willis (Abilene Christian University). Northwest Christian Church is part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)  . We strive to be a faithful, growing church, that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality and a passion for justice. We strive to be people known by faith, hope, and love. We strive to embody what Jesus proclaimed as the greatest commandments: to love God with everything we have and to love our neighbors as ourselves. We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and we proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world. We believe that all people are God's children.

Given the author's entrenched positions in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) it is little wonder that the text in particular does two things quite well. First it provides a fairly comprehensive if not epic tracing of the development of the denomination

Given the author's entrenched positions in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) it is little wonder that the text in particular does two things quite well. First it provides a fairly comprehensive if not epic tracing of the development of the denomination. Particular attention is focused upon the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with as little as possible to the other branches growing out of the Stone Campbell movement. Second it provides a safe place to inculcate the denominations adherents with the party line.

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a Mainline Protestant Christian denomination in the United States and Canada. The denomination started with the Restoration Movement during the Second Great Awakening, first existing as a loose association of churches working towards Christian unity during the 19th century, then slowly forming structures through missionary societies, regional associations, and an international convention.
