I find myself returning to "The Blue Rebels" again and again as I still can't believe that so very many northern born individuals actively supported the cause of the Confederacy during the American Civil War. I know that many other readers will be amazed to learn that well respected Northern politicians supported the South's efforts to secede even after the war had begun. I was also quite interested in the South's activities in Canada, as well as their plans for an invasion of the North via Canada. A very interesting piece of research.

This is one of the most interesting books concerning the American Civil War I have ever encountered. Upon reading "The Blue Rebels," I realized just how much has been omitted from most American history textbooks. I encourage anyone with an interest in "northern Confederates" to read this excellent book.
Outstanding! "The Blue Rebels" is, without a doubt, THE authoritative work on Union citizens actively supporting the Confederacy during the War Between the States. Highly readable and quite informative.
This book states clearly the facts about a little known area of the civil war. Anyone interested in learning about early spys and defectors should check out this text.
The Blue Rebels by S.C. Douglas opens the issue of Northern Born Confederates to many who never believed that existed during the war between the states, but lacks enough exlanation and detail to support some of the statements made in the book. Surely there were and are Confederates in the Northern states to this day, and this book is a great place and asset to any American History historian who wants a starting point for his own research on this topic.
