What a wonderful story about the beginnings and development of small town America. This would be a great book even if it were not my hometown. Filled with historical photographs, you learn how a crossroads birthed a hotel for travelers and eventually a town. See how the coming of the railroad to the Blue Ridge mountains, moved a town to the depot. Learn how the town got its first name literally by accident and was later renamed for the United States Post Office because of a majestic tree. Story after story of interesting people, places and events which shaped the people and the town. The book will inspire older adults to reminisce and younger adults to learn about life in early 20th century rural America. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in history or who are originally from Western North Carolina.

I bought this and the Mitchell County book for my Grandmother and Granfather who were raised in this area. They knew and were related to many people in the book and were absolutely delighted. This was the perfect gift for them for Christmas!
