I only used this guide for the area Saratoga Springs and south to Rhinebeck but I found some inaccuracies in that section, e.g. wrong 9 listed as going through Claverack and a note under one historic house, the house of the painter Church, which said open everyday which was misleading as only the grounds are open every day. The house is closed on Mondays. It is also a very overtly opinionated guide more interested in telling you what the author liked than always being clear with the information. If you have this guide, check all times and days of opening and closing. Given some time and a budget, I could do a better job.

Great book, which my husband can't put down! Informative even for those who frequent the Hudson Valley!

I used this book throughout a week-long journey through the Hudson Valley and agreed with all of Mr. Mulligan's assessments of the places I visited. The only caveat is that budget cuts have shortened the hours when many of these venues are open. Check the site's blog or call ahead.

This is a terrific book if you are visiting the Hudson River Valley. Tim Mulligan includes history, architecture, art, places to stay and good restaurants. I like it so much I have given it to about 5 friends. I also used it as a reference in a travel lecture that I gave recently. Some guide books are dull but this is interesting to read.
I read this lovely book for genealogical purposes. The migratory path of our family was from Westchester County in the 1600s to Schoharie County in the 1800s. There are a few towns mentioned here where our people had lived.
The book begins in Albany going toward New York City. I read it backwards one chapter at a time to really make the trip in the same direction that our family went!
Who knows if I will really take this trip? I collected travel brochures on France for a dozen years and then I really went three times. When I take this trip I am bringing this guide.
