Alan Kazdin heads the department of clinical psychology at Yale, served (perhaps still does) as the president of the American Psychological Association, and is generally recognized as one of the leader authorities in the field today. That being said, I have a few criticisms of this text. The text is ambitious and well-intended.

Before coming to Yale, he was on the faculty of The Pennsylvania State University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. This text's emphasis is on clinical psychology, but the issues and methods it discusses are relevant to counseling, school psychology and psychiatry.

We used this book for our research design class. It covers the main themes/topics well throughout the chapters, but I ended up using my professor's slides more than reading the book for this class.

This book is very easy to understand and provides lots of examples that make sense for people like me who suck at research methods. There are a lot of typos though so whoever edited this should look at it again.

So many spelling and grammatical errors in certain chapters. Needs more focus in condensing and simplifying material rather than jokes and dragging information.

This is an essential book for any clinical psych student or researcher. It helps you get a broad view of research and when you can and can't draw conclusions. I have used this for an undergrad class (with Kazdin) and a clinical psych grad class. Easy to understand for people at all levels of study.

When one is doing doctoral level design the books are typically not used or followed closely by the professors, especially if your professor is a genius. None the less I am glad to have it as a resource should I need it. Another book to add to the many I have.

I mean...I like it as much as I could like a book about research design in psychology.......it's weirdly nerdily funny sometimes though? It isn't the worst research methods textbook I've ever read, I could actually stay awake while reading entire chapters which are full of relevant info.

good quality
This is a must for any graduate student taking an advanced class in study design. Kazdin has a great style of writing and utilizes exemplars that make understanding hard concepts easier. I highly recommend this book.
