I am giving this book 5 stars. I wish there was a higher rating. The book came last night, and my response was, "Oh, that book I ordered the other night, maybe it will be interesting." I have been in the FMS battle since February 1997 when I got the flu and never got well. It took 2 years to get the FMS diagnosis, which those of you who are in the battle know, isn't a diagnosis that is very useful. So it has been a long 14 years. The first 3 pages of the book caused me to sob and cry as I haven't in a long time. They so accurately captured my early experience. This book is different, it is written by people who KNOW, who really, really get it. When I laid down last night to read, my goal was to read a page or 2. I made it a lot further than that. This morning, I continued, and it is just so, so amazing to see written what I have experienced and learned. Then I got to page 97, "Things to Say to Your Family and Friends", and the sobbing started again, even harder. Maybe it was just time to cry about the whole frustration of FMS again, but I think it is that the writers of this book get it. If you have FMS, buy this book. If you know someone who has FMS, buy this book for them.

This book is such a wonderful surprise! I call it my Fibro Bible and I refer to it regularly!

The title suggests that it will give you all "you need to know" to help you cope with this illness, and it DOES!

It's very comprehensive, factual, and is written by two nurse practitioners who work with FM patients and if I'm not mistaken they too suffer from Fibro.

This book contains such a wealth of information and is written in a very organized and easy-to-follow manner. The book contains logs & charts to help you track symptoms and other problems, which will help give your doctor a clear picture of your situation.

This book also covers medications, how to dress for maximum comfort, how to deal with people who don't understand your problem, how to talk to your family & friends about your illness, and how to minimize stress in your life so you won't have another "flare-up."

It talks about so many topics that you wouldn't think were inter-related to FM. As I read on, I found myself nodding my head in perfect clarity as certain things became so apparent to me.

Please read this book; it will really change your perspective and offer you a lot of help. It's not like the other books; it doesn't talk about the scientific part of FM although the nurses have a terrific bibliography in the back of the book.

For me, this is My Bible. Read it; you'll see why!

I was diagnosed in 2001 with FM and since purchased various books on how to help me manage it..most were a total waste of money...this one is worth every penny!

Last year after dealing with a doctor that didn't belive in FM and just wanted to ship me off to the psych ward because she didn't want to help me deal with my pain and lack of restorative sleep..which was clear every time I saw her as she always referred to treating my "mood" problem...you try to be cheerful when your in a lot of pain, stressed out, and can't seem to ever feel rested, then add people who think your just there to get drugs.
In trying to change providers I found a small practice where a Nurse Practioner and an RN helped to treat just patients suffering from FM. The first visit(and everyone since then) was very pleasant. They had a copy of this book "Taking Charge of Fibromyalgia" in their waiting room...come to find that co-author Julie Kelly was the RN at this practice, so for the first time in a long time I feel like I have someone that truely understands my condition and can help me unlike 90% of doctors I've seen over the years (most don't belive in the condition and refuse to actually do any reading on it). I still have flare ups but now I have the tools I need to get myself through them.

I've had FMS for over 7 years and have read tons of books and done a lot of research. This book is the most excellent by far, and is worth it if just for the condensed version of the latest research. All in all this should be a required manual every doctor hands an FMS patient. Please do yourself a favour and buy it. PS - Compliment it with "The Fibromyalgia Advocate" and "Fibromyalgia: The New Integrative Approach : How to Combine the Best of Traditional and Alternative Therapies"

This book has an easy-to-read format (along with humorous cartoon drawings throughout the book ;-). Having met one of the authors of this book, I can highly recommend it. Julie is a nurse who has experienced Fibromyalgia first-hand and runs a clinic to help others with Fibromyalgia.

I was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. This book answered all of my questions about the disease and provided me with ways to cope with my illness. The book is well written and packed with information. I highly recommend this book to all.
