In The Feldenkrais Method: Teaching by Handling, Yochanan Rywerant has devised a framework for understanding an immensely subtle and elusive technique for human change. Rywerant has successfully created the archetectonics for understanding a major area of human cybernetic functioning and, in so doing, has effectively established the vocabulary for a new area in the field of nonverbal communication. Moshe Feldenkrais, born 1904, Doctor in Physics, and Director of the Feldenkrais Institute in Tel Aviv, devised this general system of neuromotor teaching and reconditioning. His major theoretical work, Body and Mature Behavior, appeared in 1949.

The Feldenkrais method is an amazing method of retraining the body. It can cure chronic muscular or joint pain, repetitive stress injuries (this was why I was led to it), or just cause you to have a more supple, stronger body --all with no exercise or painful stretches. This book is not an introduction to that method--the book by Moshe Feldenkrais called "Awareness through Movement" is the standard introduction. 22 people found this helpful.

This book can be a bit dry..or not, depending on what you enjoy reading. However, it is one of the best, perhaps the only, Feldenkras book that can give you a detailed map on how to go about doing Functional Integration and acquiring the skills to do so. I consider this book a must read for a all Feldenkrais practitioners regardless of skill level.

It can not only help new practitioners acquire the work, it can help more experienced practitioners learn how to write about and think about the process of teaching and learning Functional Integration and Feldenkrais in general. There is a huge need for this book and for others to write similar books about Functional Integration.

This book is not an introduction to that method---the book by Moshe Feldenkrais called "Awareness through Movement" is the standard introduction. Or do a google search for "Feldenkrais FAQ". In fact, a book will rarely do justice to the method and the best introduction would be to take lessons from a good teacher.

But if you get intrigued about the method and begin to wonder about its technical details, this book is perhaps the most accessible account.
Rywerant was one of Feldenkrais's earliest students and is today in his 80s.

I have not read the book yet. I have only skimmed over it once in awhile. But,nevertheless, I would probably recommend it.

Excellent but advanced and highly technical. I would not recommend it for recently graduated practicians.
