This is the first book in the Elite Operatives series and was recommended to me by another reader on the Kindle forum a while back. The Elite Operatives are people raised from very young ages by a secret organization to undertake various missions, supposedly to make the world a better place. These missions frequently include assassination.

These kinds of books in general, and this one especially, requires a healthy ability to suspend disbelief. I'm more than willing if the author (or in this case, authors) are able to make the rest work in a believable manner. In this I think they succeeded for the most part.

I can't say the ideas are terribly original. There are flavors of Alias and Dollhouse here, among other things. Though the book was published a year before Dollhouse first aired. So the key is taking unoriginal elements and creating an entertaining story with engaging characters, which they did.

The novel has many POV characters, so the reader knows all sorts of things that the individual characters do not. The suspense comes from wondering who will uncover what info and when, and who is going to get away with what. And I really enjoyed that aspect of the book. It was nicely paced, with plenty of intrigue and suspense to keep me racing through to find out what happens.

The writing did have one significant flaw, the dialogue was often rather atrocious, especially between the two female lead characters. It sort of read like a thirteen-year-old's fantasy of what perfect lovey dovey talk sounds like. In other words, cliched, and not at all like naturally flowing conversation.

Despite that, and a few other niggling things here and there, the book was a solid, entertaining read. The attraction between the women was believable, and the plot was nicely layered with several different players moving the action forward.

If I had the patience to write a review for each of the sequels I would give the first book almost 5 stars (because of the occasionally somewhat inane interaction/dialog between the protagonist and her love interest) and all the sequels would receive 5 + stars. They just keep getting better and better. Although the books are somewhat formulaic - all instrumentalize the romantic sub-plot device of a tortured soul falling irrevocably in love with a pure(er) spirit while facing unbelievable dangers with bravado - they maintain a fast, plot driven pace and are hard to put down. (If you are a night reader get ready to lose some sleep!). And the formula works; not only are the superheroes shown with human fallibilites and weaknesses, the sub-plots provide a satisfying counter weight to the often gritty primary narrative. These suspenseful escapist novels have it all, lots of local color, master criminals, world-wide conspiracies, mad scientists, and protagonists you can't help but root for. Each book could be read on its own, but I recommend you read them in sequence. Protagonists whom the reader has come to care about from previous books are worked into the subsequent stories and provide additional arcs of suspense. -- I can't wait for the seventh and final sequel to come out!

These two meet under COO standards. This leads to an affair that can turn to positive or negative but for you to find out you have to buy this book to find out how it ends. To love or not. This is better then Benning a dectictive. Luka and Hayley find each other at a party. Find one another, then create something for one another. Turns to more. Luka is an operative for special forces. These special forces r to protect Hayley to the end . Buy this book to see how this unfolds. A must buy book.

The seeds were planted here for what has become one of my all time favorite lesbian romance/thriller series. That this is the weakest of them doesn't mean it's bad and it definitely is important for introducing characters that will return throughout the series.

My biggest problem with this book is that Domino is my least favorite of the operatives. She's too damaged and lacks a sense of self for much of the book. She gets better, but she was never incredibly interesting to me especially when compared to Allegro, Lynx and Fetch. Haley on the other hand was a great character who I rooted for all the way.

So minor issues aside, this is still a good book with thrills, steamy romance and introduces you to the world of the series. Definitely recommend.

Out of this seven book series, I read this as #2, out of order since #5 was a loaner and my first read. I wondered if reading them out of order might mess up plot timelines, character development, etc. But so far, so good. I’ve had no issue with that. I really enjoyed both books and look forward to the remaining five. The plot and characters were brought to life in a fun and interesting way. There weren’t any lulls or dragging on of the storylines. Lots of action, a bit of intimacy (always fun to read:) and an overall excellent cover to cover read. I recommend this for relaxed and easy reading.

Like the title says, "Better than Bourne & Bond!" I love adventure and the covert world stories. Mix that with a little romance and you have the perfect story. If you like Bourne & Bond, but feel there is just a little too much testosterone, check out this book. You will not be disappointed!

I wasn't sure I was going to like a book where the main character was an assassin. They are not my favorite people. I found it amazing that I did like this character and the story. It was full of twists and excitement, and Domino was a wonderfully complex character. I'm looking forwards to reading the next book in the series.
Domino is an agent of a secret organization. Their jobs take them all around the world to assisinate all sorts of folks. Her current assignment is to grab the security tape, which was mailed to a reporter. On this tape is Domino assisnating a man in a parking garage. But this woman and her have an instant and irresistable "click" Domino finds herself falling in love and it (unlike the guns, bullets, and bad guys, scares her to death! Will she kill the reporter whom she has increasing feelings for?
