I am glad that I introduced Brigitta finally in Book 2. And then of course, Ursula. I telegraph the reveal later in Book 2, but it's ok. The whole arc is complete once we see Ursula again.

We came upon this graphic novel via a loan, that at first I was somewhat irritated to receive (as I did not ask to have it loaned to us and my daugher saw it before I did). I was not keen to read it aloud to my three year old daughter - I was put off by "princess" and I have never found it at all fun to read graphic novels/comics aloud. I was so wrong. The princess is not the disney-esque pastel prissy pants "oooh, save me" character I had feared and my daughter's total absorbtion in the story fueled my interest in reading it aloud and finding out what happens next. In addition to liking the story and the art, which is breathtaking, there are important literacy-increasing features of the story (true of most graphic novels) such as the changes in the font style to express different types of action or speech - my daughter really noticed this and it added to her enjoyment of the story. Despite my initial reluctance, my daughter now has incorporated a different type of book into her literacy repertoire. We have read the novel three times now, and I am certain that we will read it again and look for the sequels.

All little girls love princess stories, but this is an anti-stereotypical princess story. This princess is not the most beautiful and she doesn't wait around to be rescued. This is is a story that actually highlights the values you want your daughter to embrace. We have given this as a gift several times and EVERY girl we've given it to has LOVED it.

My little girl comes crashing around the corner, saying "save me momy there's a dragon!" I gave her a stick and said, fight the dragon yourself! If this is the kind of mom you are, than this is the comic for you. Mabelrose is not the prettiest in the land, so when she is taken for ransom by a fearsom dragon, she knows there will be no prince to save her. She sets out to save herself. This story is full of charm and wit. I love it! Waiting and wishing for a sequel... hint hint Rod Esponosa!

This princess is not celebrated for how wonderfully she can dance or how pretty she is. No. She is courageous and resourceful. We love this book at my house.

As much as I adore this particular comic (I do), I am really disappointed in this volume. In short, I met Rod Espinosa at a con, and bought a hard-cover from him. I loved the story so much that I later bought every copy I could, but since it's rare, they're hard to find. But what I DID NOT know is that the copies I originally had contained the entire trilogy. A trilogy, I might add, that ends on a cliff-hanger. I was under the impression that volume 2 and 3 would finish the story, but they were priced so obscenely ($90-$200) I couldn't afford to find out. So when the third comic dropped to a reasonable price, I bought two copies, only to discover that it was no continuation of the original, marvelous story, but the last third of what I already had.

So this review is intended to clarify that the story ends after the flute is used to drive off the dragon, apparently. If anyone finds out otherwise, let me know, but otherwise, I'm going to be sitting in the corner with my lower lip pushed out.

I got this for a friend and myself. They were both used but in brand new condition! They both came on the same day a week after ordering.

This book is a childhood memory for me. I got it used, the condition wasn't the greatest but not as bad as unreadable. It's an adorable story and I love how the princess was also the hero ( there wasn't a prince who saved her or anything)
The story is wonderful, but the binding falls apart. I purchased the book and read it and it fell apart. I replaced it, gave the new one to a friend and it fell apart on her too.
