A peddler sets out to find a shiny silver dollar for his dear darling daughter. I used to read it to my daughter when she was 3 or so. The illustrations by Nancy Tafuri are fabulous. I saw that this book was out of print. After reading this book to your daughter, you will be unable to refer to her as other than your "dear darling daughter" and when traveling, thing "with a wing wang waddel and a jack fair faddle, it's a long way from home".

After several transactions. The story is based on an old folk song originating in the piney woods of the South. Not knowing the song, I can only imagine from this sweet retelling that it must indeed be a rollicking toe-tapping, knee-slapping fine song.

I've loved this book for nearly 30 years and finally figured out I could get it through Amazon. It has a wonderful storyline, charming illustrations, a sing-songy repetitive verse. I've read it in the past to pre-school and kindergarten aged children and they have loved it, loved chiming in. My 9 yr. old grandson enjoyed it too!

This is without a doubt my favorite book. I used to read it to my daughter when she was 3 or so. The illustrations by Nancy Tafuri are fabulous. Each page provides a fantastic illustration along with an illustration around the border that supports the page. I saw that this book was out of print. That's a tragedy. After reading this book to your daughter, you will be unable to refer to her as other than your "dear darling daughter" and when traveling, thing "with a wing wang waddel and a jack fair faddle, it's a long way from home". Thank you very much George Shannon.
