Early Bird is about to give up when he meets a friendly fellow in a funny hat-it's Wiggly Worm! . I find nothing entertaining about this book.

Generations of children around the world have grown up spending hours poring over books by the late RICHARD SCARRY filled with all the colorful details of their daily lives. A bird who eats bacon and EGGS for breakfast but brings a worm home for a sleepover? I'm not against nonsensical childrens books, but this one is just plain boring and well, dumb.

Richard Scarry's take on the classic adage "the early bird catches the worm" is delightfully realized in this Step 2 reader, out of print for 10 years. Early Bird looks and looks, but he can't seem to find a worm to play with. A jumping frog and a tiny field mouse try to help out, but there just aren't any worms to be found. Early Bird is about to give up when he meets a friendly fellow in a funny hat-it's Lowly Worm! Step 2 (Reading with Help) is for children who recognize familiar words and sound out new words with aural and visual cues.

After several cases of mistaken identity Early Bird finally finds a worm to play with.

Best story by Richard Scarry. Every child should own this and have I read to them very, very often.

This was my son's favorite book as a child and I bought this for his son. It's a great book for young children, my grandson is only 6 months old, but he was mesmerized when his dad read this book to him.

I checked this out from my local library and my daughter wanted it read over and over, she's 2. Great book for beginner readers, illustrations are adorable. My daughters other favorite book is The Spooky Old Tree, another great early reader book.

Every time I get out my old torn up copy of this book (its 39 years old) it makes me happy!! My kids enjoy it, but not as much as I do!! I especially like the page where early bird brushes his beak with a tooth brush!
