Bim, a housebuilder, and Bom, a baker, work hard all week, and then .

Bim, a housebuilder, and Bom, a baker, work hard all week, and then spend every Friday doing good deeds, "mitzvot," and meet joyfully at sundown to celebrate Shabbat together. On Friday, Bim and Bom celebrated Shabbat together in Bim's house and ate Bom's challah. I like the ideas that are present. However, I feel that the information was very surface-level. It also provides lyrics which I think is a great way to tie in music into the classroom.

Bim, a builder, and her brother Bom, a baker, live on opposite sides of town. All week long they work hard but when Shabbat comes, they celebrate the day together

and Bom: A Shabbat Tale by Daniel J. Swartz from The PJ Library. When I first heard that an old Shabbat story was being modernized with new pictures, I was a little chagrined.

In January, thousands of families, including my own, will receive a copy of Bim and Bom: A Shabbat Tale by Daniel J. The book takes the ubiquitous Shabbat song (you know the one – bim, bom, bim, bim, bim bom, bim bim bim bim bim bom, bim bim bim – well, you get the idea) and transforms it into a tale of a builder (Bim) and a baker (Bom) who race across town every Friday at sunset to welcome the Sabbath together. The book has been around for a while.

sweet story. my daughter loves it (20 months). a great way to introduce shabbat to a toddler. I particularly like that the female is the carpenter and the male character is the baker!

A heart-warming tale that perfectly explains the essence of Shabbat. The story underscores that the holiness of Shabbat is derived from special time with family and acts of communal charity. My three year old grandson loves hearing the story, and I love reading it to him.

Being new to Judaism and their practices, after hearing the Bim Bom song , I was interested in finding it online to learn the words and tune and stumbled across this gem of a book! Great find!

This is a great book. Kar Ben has been purchased by another company which is going to republish this with new illustrations, so I can't really comment on those, but I love the text. I can't recommend it enough!

As a Reconstructionist rabbi, I'm always looking for books that describe Jewish life and values in a way that is both meaningful and relevant. This book hits the mark! The story line is simple and sweet, the writing is clever and careful to be egalitarian, and the illustrations are fun. I definitely recommend this book to rabbis, Jewish educators and, of course, parents!

This is a great book for Shabbat School children, very good illustrations and a really good book. I absolutely recommend it.
