I purchased this book for my seven year old Granddaughter who loves to read. I read first what I buy for her as a caution and because it allows me to talk about a good book with her. I was disappointed that in this otherwise lovely story lying was acceptable out of some of the characters. I did give it to my Granddaughter but cautioned her about that ahead of time.

I read this to my 3rd grade class, because I wanted them to know that Christmas wasn't all about waking up in a cozy home with gift galore. Hopefully, they will have a broader understanding of what it's like to be homeless.

I read this book along w/daughter. I understand it’s to teach morals about being kind, helping others, etc. But, it also goes against much of what teachers & we as parents try to teach our children in current society to keep them safe & protect them from strangers, harm, and as small children not to wander or disobey. Several of us parents were a bit unhappy with this book.

Lovely story. Any child or adult will get a warm feeling for this book.

Great Book! Story is sweet and lots of life lessons for kids. Read out loud to my 9 yr old and we both enjoyed it. She has even let her friends borrow it to read.

We loved this story! It teaches that kindness is important and doesn't always come with glamorous exterior. It teaches not to scoff at people in difficult circumstances or at people that are different. It doesn't preach, but shows that it's important what people are like on the inside, not on the outside.

I bought this for my daughters. Wonderful story.
A classic - and have given this to my grandchildren before trips to Europe - so they will understand everyone's situation as they move around the world. Pictures are sweet, the story is wonderful.
