The Hardy Boys Mystery Series consists of the first 58 stories which were originally published by Grosset & Dunlap between 1927 and 1979. Between 1979 and 2005, Simon and Schuster continued the series, with volume numbers starting at volume 59 and ending with volume 190. The first 38 books were extensively revised between 1959 and 1973, partially to eliminate racial stereotypes. The books were also written in a simpler style in an attempt to compete with television.
