The illustrations are among the most ingenious I've ever seen in a children's book. No matter how many visits I made to each page, I discovered yet another new and enchanting detail. This was absolutely my favorite book as a little girl. It teaches kids excellent an excellent lesson about how to use your own strengths in new and unexpected ways, in order to solve problems. The illustrations are a bit dated by now, but they're adorable.
