Growing up I enjoyed Encyclopedia Brown mystery stories. Rarely was there an African American character. Now, we have Sunny's Adventures thanks to Leketha Marie Johnson. Short puzzles a young child will enjoy solving along with Sunny or for themselves! Enjoy!

Being a first-time mom is tough. I'm not a new mom, but I'm forever feeling like a rookie at the job. My oldest child just entered Kindergarten but I still feel new to so many things. I guess with the first child, there will always be a learning curve.

I read over the description provided and thought "Hey, this sounds cute! I think my oldest would really relate to it." The recommended reading age states 9-12 but I really thought it sounded good and felt it would be enjoyable to read with her. I figured - How would I know unless I gave it a try.

We received our copy of the book and I crossed my fingers that my Kindergartner and her four year old sister would like it. The book consists of five short stories. Five short mysteries. Each mystery was long enough to create a picture and engage some dialogue but short enough that it could easily keep their attention.

Spoiler alert. Oh wait, it's a kids' story so I guess I really don't need that disclaimer. Well at least I've covered my bases. In the first story, Sunny's best friend loses her dog. It's missing from the yard. But the gate has been locked so nobody could come into the yard and take it. They examined the back yard and found a hole under the fence. I stopped reading and said to the girls "What do you think would happen in our yard if there was a hole under the fence?" We talked about it for a little bit and they realized that our dogs could get out of the yard. Away. Lost. The story continues that Sunny and her best friend go outside the fence and see tracks leading away from the fence. Once again, I stopped and asked "You know how when the grass is wet that you like to walk through the grass then walk onto the sidewalk and make footprints?" They both nodded. I said "That's what they found from the dog. They're going to follow it just like we follow your footsteps." Cool, they're keeping up with the story. Finally, Sunny and her friend followed the paw prints all the way to the neighbor's door where they talked to the neighbor and found the lost dog! The chapter was wrapped up with a few recap questions about the clues we used to find the missing dog. Both girls were able to remind me what the clues where when I asked.

Both the girls were tired but when they heard that the second mystery was about a missing classroom pet, they were wide-eyed and listening. They have been very interested in reading the stories and searching for clues.

Sunny's Adventures is a fun book that young readers can enjoy on their own but also a great story for parents to read to their emerging readers and younger. Each story includes only a few clues in order to solve the mystery which provides a great introduction into a genre of books that I would have never considered trying out until the girls got a little older.

My children and I enjoyed gathering on our deck reading Sunny's Adventures in the sunshine. I read the book to them and asked them questions at the end of each chapter. We all enjoyed that the author put questions after each of the five chapters.

Sunny goes on thrilling adventures. My children and I enjoyed each short story and helping Sunny solve the mysteries. The kids especially enjoyed the first short story of The Case of the Missing Puppy. Not only do we have a puppy but the drawing of the missing puppy looked like ours! That made the kids even more excited.

I think Leketha Marie Johnson did a wonderful job writing this children's book. The book moves quick and the stories and plots keep the children interested. This book will be an enjoyment to your family to read together as we did or for a chapter book for your child to read.

I have twin sisters who had lots of fun reading this book. The main character was about the same age as them and got into plenty of the same mischief as my own sisters, so they were able to relate well to the story lines.

With the help of the reading comprehension questions at the end of every adventure, we were able to explore each story and talk some more about their own experiences and how they would have gone about solving each mystery themselves.

Overall, this is a great easy reader with very believable stories that kids can easily follow and relate to. Sunny is a bright and cheerful character that really makes each story fun and enjoyable.

I recently read Sunny's Adventures. It was a fun little book with many little adventures that reminded me of growing up, like baking with my mom. It is full of several short little adventures where Sunny solves little mysteries like who took the class pet and who stole the pie. My kids are a little young for this at only 1 and 3, but I can see my oldest really enjoying this in a few years. She already tries to solve her own adventures. This book is definitely for kids who have big imaginations like her, they will totally be able to see themselves in Sunny.

I think this would be a great book for teachers to read to their classes. Each day for over a week they could hear a new adventure and have something to look forward too. And with the fun little illustrations the kids will really be able to picture the characters.

It's a great little book, I would definitely recommend it for young little adventurers.

My daughter who is eight, absolutely loved Sunny's Adventures. Her favorite story was the one about the missing doll. She is always losing her dolls and stuffed animals so she could relate to the way the characters in the story were feeling.

I read this book along with two young children, both of who thoroughly enjoyed it. When I asked both boys what their favorite story was, neither could decide. This was one that not only did the kids enjoy, but I had a lot of fun reading it to them.

The righting is perfect for reading to kids of all ages and the stories are ones they can relate to. Sunny's Adventures is a great little book to keep that is sure to entertain young ones and have them begging for more stories.
