This is an excellent book with much good information, well written by William Anderson. The art work complements the text and is especially enjoyable. I'm a fan of Cheryl Harness and own several books she's authored and illustrated.
If someone is wondering about the average interest level. The way the book is arranged it can be just a picture book to introduce young & younger children to new ideas adding some of the large lettered text for middle range ages. Adding all the text along the sides will engage older ones in greater appreciation of this part of the country, which they may not have much experience with. But it is also of interest to adults. So enjoy!!!

Purchased this as a baby gift for a friend who is from South Dakota and she loved it! She didn't even know this book existed and she can't wait to read it to her little one. She said that she was reading through it herself and learned things she didn't even know about her state. The illustrations are beautiful. I'm looking forward to purchasing a couple for my daughter as well so she can learn about where my husband and I are from. What a great series!

I found the verses and pictures were entertaining for my little one and the sidebars with history and facts were entertaining for me. I ended up planning some of the places we visted in South Dakota based on this book. Now that we are home, it is fun reading it and pointing out where we were and remembering our trip.

Unfortunately the pictures are very small when displayed on the kindle fire. I purchased to take on vacation for my children, but I don't see the 2"x2" illustrations keeping their attention. It wasn't possible to determine this from the sample, so I'm disappointed in the purchase.

My kids love this book, and so do I! The author was my highschool history teacher and I remember him reading it to us when it was first published.
