I like Nancy Drew but there are better volumes than "The Mystery At Lilac Inn". This was the Nancy Drew book that got me hooked on the series when I was 10. I remember being sick with the flu and home from school. I admire a mystery that weaves back stories together but this isn't one of them. This time, the 'Carolyn Keene' publishing committee was obvious. A hodgepodge of culprits were added, in an attempt to pack the book with excitement. The result is that Nancy, Helen, and Emily spent 180 pages on disjointed errands. My mom brought home several of the Nancy Drew books that a friend had given her for me that her daughter had outgrown.

The Mystery At Lilac Inn is the fourth volume in the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories series. It was first published in 1931 under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene. In 1961, Harriet Stratemeyer Adams extensively revised the novel, creating a completely different story.
