The lyrics are usually repeated by kids before they go to sleep. The Matthew, Mark, Luke and John rhyme was first published as a charm or blessing in 1656, England, by Thomas John Ady in his book Candle in the Dark: Or, A Treatise Concerning the Nature of Witches & Witchcraft. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, The bed be blest that I lie on. The origins of this prayer can be traced back to Babylonia’s ancient times in a prayer

I bought this after reading the good reviews. I wanted a reader that tought good character and judgement. This book uses words like "stupid". The characters do not have respect for parents. If you are upset with the way todays children behave, and with the public school system, this book is NOT for you! I am throwing mine in the trash. I am just thankful I read it before giving it to my children!

I have the responsiblity of finding quality but fun books for readers of all types to not only enjoy the stories, but leaving the reader wanting more. Marky & The Mouse is exactly such a book. It not only is an excellant choice for reluctant readers because of the text, but also very enjoyable. It is written as if a real eight year old is telling you about his life and troubles not only with his 11 year old sister, but a MOUSE that is in his house. This book is almost two stories in one with the tales Marky spins about his sister, but also the challenge his dad is faced trying to catch the mouse. The artwork is done just as well as the story, and feel this is a great new series that every library or household would enjoy.
