Henry has started his own critter-sitting business, and his neighbors are his first paying customers. Watching this unruly menagerie is hardly a job for a beginner, but Henry is a true professional and never loses his cool. Still, it takes all his clever critter sitter tricks and a little luck to tame these animal antics and have all the furry, feathered, and slithery creatures back where they belong before the Mahoneys return.

Outstanding illustrations! A boy babysits animals for a family. Lots of mishaps occur but all is back together when the family arrives home. My first grade son and fourth grade daughter thought it was "really good!"
Funny story incredible drawings my teacher friends loved it
Henry, critter sitter extraordinaire, has reported for duty at the Mahoney house. Little does he know the extent to which the animals in his care will challenge his business motto of "creature control." Slobberchops, an adorable hound with an enormous penchant for getting into dirty and smelly messes, initiates a succession of problems when he turns the laundry room into a disaster area and lets Slinky the boa constrictor out of its tank. A snake on the loose is problematic because Flip the tree frog and Peepers the cockatiel have both escaped from their cages. Not to be outdone, Little Miss Purr-fect the cat knocks all the crickets onto the floor and tries to flush Bubbles the goldfish down the toilet. Giving Slobberchops yet another bath loses its appeal, and pulling a slithering reptile out of the drain is certainly not a feature of the job that Henry had foreseen.

This first-rate book takes readers on a breathless roller coaster ride as Henry does his best to keep up with the furry, feathery, and scaly creatures in his care. Readers are further drawn in to Henry's frustrations and triumphs through Chuck Richards' delightful illustrations. Mixed into the fun are some serious lessons in economics about the potential benefits and pitfalls of starting a business and providing a service. Critter Sitter makes for a satisfying read and may inspire a new wave of entrepreneurs.
When Mr. and Mrs. Mahoney leave to pick up their kids from Camp Yippie-Yahoo, Henry has his first job as a Critter Sitter.

The Mahoney's don't just have a dog and cat, though. They also have a tree frog, a fish, a bird, and a boa constrictor. It doesn't take long for Henry to find out that keeping Slobberchops in the laundry room, and the bird in its cage, and the snake in its tank is no easy task.

The dog escapes into Mrs. Angora's yard (she's the old lady who lives in a spooky mansion on the top of the hill!), the fish is almost flushed down the toilet, the bird makes a run for it, and there are live crickets all over the kitchen!

Creature Control may be Henry's game, but the Mahoney pets are not making his job easy!

Children will delight in this fun story, and the full-color illustrations only add to the humorous chaos. This is a great bedtime - or anytime! - read for the whole family.
