This book although short, provides a thorough introduction to Indian culture. Included topics are history, culture, family life, and the problem of poverty. The author writes in a non-biased manner. The book has many colorful pictures and a simple text for young learners. The book also provides a helpful glossary of terms. Annoyingly there were 3 exercises included in the text, that didn't have much to do with the topic. I found the suggested exercises distracting from the rest of the book, stuff like "write an ending for Shanti and Dipu's story. Have your friends do the same.", "Interview a welfare officer in your city or town or invite him or her to your school.", and a fill in the blank in the sentences from a list of words including such things as shampoo, pajamas, sandals. Other than the exercises, this book is a great book for anyone, but especially younger learners, to educate themselves about the fascinating country of India.

India: The Culture, by Bobbie Kalman. This is the first book of Bobbie Kalman I have ever read and I must say this book is worth reading. This is a small book, only 32 pages with very detailed points and colorful pictures. It provides great introduction to India’s culture, land, and people. Bobbie explains many great details about one of the most popular monument in India. The Taj. Having pictures on each page that describes little about everything he has experienced while he took a trip down to India, is what makes the book fun to read. I find books with pictures fascinating. One of my favorite part about this book was, The Culture part. On page 25, it has three amazing picture of women wearing a red dot on her forehead, Saree, and Mangalsutra. Under every picture, he lists facts of why women in India wears it on daily basis. For those who don’t know, India has very colorful culture, with different fashion attire, unique rituals, and much more. One of the picture that brought tears in my eyes, was a picture of a little boy begging for food. India does have some areas where there is so much poverty. Over all, reading this book gave me an idea of how to use the information provided in my research paper. This book is a great source for the young generation or beginner who are interested learning about Cultures, lands, and People of India in small details.
