When springtime comes, watch out; that's when all the baby animals are born and we discover one of the unique features of this book: Unlike most counting books, which end at ten or twenty, Brown Cow Farm allows readers to count all the way to one hundred.

Beautiful illustrations that are so simple and yet so lovely and intricate. Love that it counts all the way to 100! Perfect for my Kindergarteners learning all their numbers! Most children's books only go to 10...this is a rare and beautiful find!

Brown Cow Farm was a favorite of my daughter when we discovered it 30 years ago. The story is built around numbers from 1 to 100. I credit it with helping to develop her love of numbers. It is a wonderful book to read to a small child who likes to sit still and cuddle. You can count every bird and animal on every page and spin that story out for many, many minutes. The drawings are extremely detailed. The only thing it lacks is variety in the colors that are used.

My daughter just turned two a month ago and Brown Cow Farm was one of her gifts from us (Mama and Daddy). We have read it probably a dozen times since then and she and I both are entertained by the graphic illustrations and the poetic verse. It teaches counting from one to ten, all the different animals on the farm and then by tens, all of the baby animals that are born in the spring, up to one hundred. Just this week she has started reciting her numbers from one to ten. And the wonderful thing is that she actually understands what counting is. She'll point at the babies in the book and begin counting them. I believe that Dahlov has captured the magic of creation and presented it in an organized, cohesive manner enabeling even her youngest audience to not only grasp but master the message of her tales.
