I love the story and characters and would recommend introducing your children to the wonderful world of Beatrix Potter. This is an absolutely charming book. By itself, the book is a wonderful gift for a new baby. Couple it with a Jemima Puddle Duck stuffed animal and you have a gift that will be treasured for years. I like the small book because it is sometimes hard to hold a grandchild AND a book while you read to them. Besides, the smaller book is reminiscent of the original book.

no sound....no good....

You can involve a child or children with a story when you are able to include sounds. This book is another winner in that category since it involves words along with the sounds.
Ynap
The book is illustrated well and has the basic motif of the Jemima Puddle-Duck's dilemma BUT the story is abbreviated, there are too few pages and the music overpowers the other sound effects like the dog barking and the chicks chirping. If I had handled it before buying, I would not have purchased this book.
Murn
I bought this to replace one I had for my granddaughter. It stopped making sounds, so I ordered a new one for my two year old grandson. The sounds worked for about a week.
Crazy
I had to return this book because the sounds didn't work straight out of the box. there was no option but to return for a refund.

I was disappointed by the reviews left for this book in its various formats. But at $1.50 bargain book, I figured how bad could it be? The sounds were different but catchy, my kids liked them (they were short songs rather than sound effects for the most part). The book was of good quality but the sound effects buttons were hard for my kids to press (I had no problem myself).

The story itself was only so-so but wasn't as bad as others made it out to be. In short, a duck wants to lay her eggs in private. A fox offers his hut. She lays eggs and he suggests she gather some herbs so that they can have dinner to celebrate. The duck mentions it to the farm dogs who are suspicious and follow her to the hut where they chase away the dog. Yes, I suppose the story goes that a fox tricks the duck into leaving her brood unattended so that he can eat her eggs. But this is never shown and not alluded to much (there was no picture of an empty nest or anything like that) so my kids totally missed what some parents picked up on. Also, the farm dogs do not then kill the fox as some mistakenly say. The text says that the fox was "never seen again" and the picture shows the dogs chasing the fox away. My kids thought it meant that the fox wanted to eat the duck but the dogs scared it away - happy ending and everyone was satisfied. For $10 or more this book may not be worth it. But for under $5 it is a bargain.

I love this book! The only things I don't like is 1) it's not very long, and 2) the buttons are rather hard to push and makes it so my (14 month old) daughter isn't able to push them (they are even a bit firm for me to push...). The pictures are adorable and the storyline is cute. I would still get it, but beware the buttons are difficult.
Thought it would be better based on the reviews .. sound quality is very poor, book is very thick on the end where it stores the sound hardware. I've heard greeting cards at 1/4 the thickness sound better. Awful sounding effects (most of them).
