My five-year-old grandson, who has hermit crabs for pets, loved this informative book. It is a picture book and the artwork is lovely, but there is more to it than just paintings. Real information is cleverly included with each different creature. He really enjoys hearing "all the words", and this book is inviting enough to be a page-turner. It's not too long. My copy came with its jacket, which I liked (perhaps ex-library). The size of the book was wider, and larger altogether than expected. I like it a lot. :)

This is the 6th book in this series that we have purchased for out toddler, and each one is just as good as the last. The illustrations are are phenomenal, the text simple but very informative, and everything comes together beautifully. I am certain that this book and series would be age appropriate for children as old as 8, but certainly are very good for curious toddlers as well. So happy to have found this series!

Simple sentences without dumbing down scientific information- just what I wanted for my child. We've since bought several others from this author and have been very, very impressed by them all. WONDERFUL reading and beautiful pictures!!!

This book is about crustaceans. I think people would enjoy it because it's a fact book. The most useful part of the book is the Afterword because it tells you more about all the crustaceans. I really like how it lays out all the facts about the crustaceans and I really loved the illustrations. They were awesome! I think people age 4 and up would like it, especially people who live by the beach. If I could I would give it 6 stars!

The left page of each two page spread has very simple text that still includes scientific information. There is also a label for each watercolor illustration on the right page. This is almost a book within a book. The afterword show a small black and white of each illustration and an additional paragraph of more detailed information. This is the third book in the delightful nature series by Carolyn and John Sills that I have reviewed here on Chat With Vera. This very talented team brings to the young child information that they can understand without compromising the scientific accuracy. The illustrations are beautiful and so very accurate.

Again, the book design is simple. A large picture on the right hand page showing detailed physical characteristics and simple text on the left page with short descriptive scientific title or clue. In the back of the book there is an afterward that revisits each crustacean giving more detail and information.

The young reader will learn what crustaceans look like, what they eat, where they live.

The book can be read to the very young child or the older reader can delve into it himself. A treasure to have tucked on a shelf ready for the inquisitive youngster to while away an afternoon learning while he is having fun. I highly recommend this set of books for the home library as well as the school library.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
