The atlas moth lives in Southeast Asia, does not have a mouth or eat, mates and dies-all in two weeks. The giant cockroach lives in South America, stinks so others won't eat him, but is kept as a pet!! All this and more. A total of 16 bugs are displayed, located, and described.

2. Simon says at the book's beginning that he is using the term bug to refer to "big insects, scorpions, and spiders that people often think of as bugs," implying but not stating that some of them are not actually bugs.

My grandkids, all boys and three of them, are into bugs and spiders. This book is beautiful, detailed and great pictures and colors. They are learning about how and why about spiders. I would definetly buy this book again and gift to friends with kids. Smithsonian, you are great- now on to looking for more books for these LITTLE BUG EXPLORERS!

This was a great deal, especially at Christmas time, son enjoys the book very much. He wanted it so bad because his father is afraid of spiders, so he likes to read it to his father to gross him out. Thank you again!
