It's Midwinter Eve and everyone in Brambly Hedge is busily preparing for the traditional midwinter celebrations. Primrose Woodmouse and Wilfred Toadflax are to recite a poem, so they go up to the attics to rehearse in peace and quiet. But when Primrose finds a small key in an old wooden dresser, all thoughts of rehearsing are put aside! The mice of Brambly Hedge have many adventures but they always have time for fun too. All through the year, they mark the seasons with feasts and festivities and, whether it be a little mouse's birthday, an eagerly awaited wedding or the first day of spring, the mice never miss and opportunity to meet and celebrate.

This beautiful little book rounds out our collection of Brambly Hedge books. This is a stand out with the heightened sense of adventure and mystery with the discovery of the secret staircase that leads Wilfred and Primrose into the chambers of the Woodmouce ancestors. The underlying theme in this story is Midwinter which I think is a great alternative to Christmas and opens questions for kids about this holiday which is an ancient celebration. I love the detailed maps and drawings that accompany the story and the little descriptions which fill in the corners of your mind while reading.

I read this and other Brambly Hedge books to my kids who are 6 and 4 and they adore them, sitting quietly, listening intently through the book. My 6 year old reads this book as well with some help from me. Vocabulary is hard in this story but the fact that it introduces new words not ordinarily seen in modern books is a bonus.

This is a wonderful book I highly recommend for parents to share with their kids.
The stories are simple and sweet and the illustrations are wonderful. One can spend hours looking at the detailed cut-aways of the underground homes with their kitchens, bedrooms, storage rooms, etc.

Young children will love hearing the stories and exploring the illustrations.
sweet set of books
I enjoy all my Bramble Hedge books. The art work is precious. I know all children will enjoy this story along with adults.
The Brambly Hedge series is a lovely set of books. One of my children's favorites. I would purchase this product again.
Books are in good condition as described. Shipped without problem. Cute little book for children with great illustrations. I have made the characters for my granddaughter and she loves all of it--the story, the characters, etc.
The book came well protected and the recipient loved the story.
Jill Barklem writes great stories and the illustrations are exquisite. I read many of her stories to my son 20 years ago and just had to have my own copy.
