The sand horse, embedded in the beach, hears the call of the foamy white horses and longs to join them, and by dawn, he has. A smooth beach greets the artist, who smiles with the knowledge of where the sand horse has gone.
The sand horse, embedded in the beach, hears the call of the foamy white horses and longs to join them, and by dawn, he has. A poetic paean to the eternity of the tides, or gentle musings on the ephemeral nature of art-this is a poignant story
The sand Horse is both illustrated and written by Michael Foreman and both of these components by themselves are effective but when combined allow for a powerful visualisation of the story.

The story is about an artist who make a horse sculpture in the sand and everyone who passes it admires it. However, when everyone is gone the sand horse wants to be free and experience the waves that he has been listening to all day and this call is made stronger by the white horses in the surf calling him.

Ann Turnbull Michael Foreman. This haunting story was Ann Turnbull's first for Andersen Press, beautifully interpreted by Greenaway Medal Winner Michael Foreman. One windy summer day, an artist makes a horse sculpture out of the sand on the beach at St Ives. It takes him the whole day, and all the beach people admire it. But when everyone goes in at the end of the day, the Sand Horse can hear the white horses in the surf calling to him: 'Come with us to Sennen, Land's End, and Longships Light!,' and he longs to join them. Stacks featuring this.

The plight of the sand horse is moving for all that it is inanimate and its wild joy once transformed is almost infectious. Furthermore, the story is brought joyously to life by the evocative illustrations of Michael Foreman, a resident of St Ives.
