This book was about three little pigs that get kicked out by their mothers home and she tells them that it is time that they found their own homes. They all have different ideas as to what they want their houses to be made of so they build them. However in town there is an alligator that wants to eat them up and each time he goes to their houses their houses get destroyed. It is the same concept of the story we know and love, but with a different cultural twist.

As a person who lives in Cajun Country, Artell's books have some of the best phonetically worded children's books for re-creating the sound of Cajun French.

When ol' Claude the gator comes sneaking along, however, the three brothers are forced to question their choice of construction materials!

This hilarious tale from the creators of the popular Petite Rouge (which School Library Journal declared "A treat from start to finish") will once again take you to the heart of the Cajun swamps and show you the Three Little Pigs like you've never seen them.

My daughter and I started off earlier this year with Artell's Petit Rouge Riding Hood. It became an instant favorite. Kind of cool to have a 3 y.o. that waves "adieu" and that knows what a pirogue is.
So we grabbed this one and once again- it is too fun. If you like masking up voices for characters- do not miss Artell's work. My daughter was delighted that Claude the Gator was revisited for the story. (In fantastic illustration, as well as my funny voice for him.)
I was happy to get another vocabulary lesson at the beginning of the book.
And again- funny funny stuff.
My favorite part about Artell's work is that you get better at it, the more you read it out loud. Well my kiddo is going to ask me to read this out loud about a million times, so I love that I could learn to do a recognizable Cajun accent from Artell's books!!

Saaaaaaayyyy.... I don't suppose there's an author that has done this with a good Irish accent, too??
For you enthusiastic readers- do not miss this one.

I taught elementary school for 38 years, retired 3 years ago and am still subbing, and this is my students' all time favorite book to hear aloud, and is my favorite to read aloud. I am on my second copy. The familiar tale in the Cajun cadence and rhyme is just a natural read aloud joy; the little guide of French words in the preface that the kids need to "learn" to enjoy the book just adds to the fun (especially "derriere", which yields peals of giggles). I highly, highly recommend this book, and his other titles as well. Great fun!

My grandchildren love granma's in New Orleans!
They love the food and the aquarium and all the river traffic. They just love coming south! This is a way to take it home!

We first checked this book out from the library and we all fell in love with it so I bought it for myself as a birthday present. When you read this book you sound like a local bayou resident. My husband will sit and listen to me read it to the boys and roll on the ground laughing. It is a very cute take on the three little pigs with adorable Cajun twists. We also own the Petite Rouge Riding Hood. We enjoy these books so much that we buy them as presents for other children. I highly recommend this book. Happy reading!!

This is a FANTASTIC version of 3 Little Pigs. It is delightful. I love to read it to my grandchildren. The reason I gave it 4 stars is the Kindle version is harder to see. The text boxes have to be expanded to read (at least for Pop's old eyes) and they cover up some of the artwork.

Another fun book by the Artell-Harris combo. Reads aloud delightfully; children will be fascinated as long as you let yourself go in eMOting and DRAMatizing your reading. The 'gator from P'tit Rrrrouge is back and still looking for a delicious morsel, or t'ree. Not 5 stars because the 3-pigs story has not been as inventively embroidered as the Red Riding Hood one is in Petite Rouge. But it's a great read-aloud and worth adding to your children's book library.
I have a PhD in literature and I think this is one of the best written children's books I have ever seen.
