I gave this to my daughter for her birthday. It is cute and colorful and full of fun ideas. She and her friends love to write and create lists and be creative, so this is perfect.

Despite the popularity of Facebook, Instagram, and selfies, Klutz continues to carve out a corner of the tween girl market through these keepsake-style books - the original social media.

The distinctive features of this Klutz activity book - basically a peer-to-peer networking project - are the enclosed pencil with eraser and a multicolored and generous pad of paper on which answers can be noted and dated. Pockets on the interior pages allow these notes to be stored for future reference, comparison or audiences. It's a clever idea that adds an interactive-style element to the book.

Each page features sentence starter-style questions such as "5 People Who..." followed by a dozen teaser ideas like "Drive me up a wall," or "Can always cheer me up." Although author Karen Phillips does an excellent job writing and organizing this book, her editors could update this 2008 work to reflect the changing demographics and social awareness of the tween market.

I found the section "Boys and Other Animals" with topics like "Rank Some Romeos," and "Who's a Good Boy?" awkward and disparaging. With Macklemore singing "Same Love," and girls growing up with stay-at-home dads, two moms, and accepting of or experiencing different life expressions, these kind of sex-and-gender stereotypes don't fit either the hipster vibe Klutz strives for or the current reality for many tweens.

Overall this is a good product, but only earns 3 stars for being old fashioned. Instead, I recommend Klutz's more recent offering, It's All About Us, also by Phillips, which is a more relevant and contemporary Q&A of tween life.
