The Doubleday cookbook: Complete contemporary cooking. I owned a copy of The New Doubleday Cookbook for close to 30 years -mine had a basic white hardcover as I'd lost the jacket years and husbands ago. During a recent move someone helped themselves (stole )my 40 year collection of all my cookbooks, and being the only family member who has any cooking talent and was well known for my holiday baking and candies I am still livid -and in tears. Most are out of print or irreplaceable so to find this was the best holiday gift EVER! !!

There are symbols for low-calorie, time-saving, and money-saving recipes. There are 166 instructive line drawings done by Mel Klapholtz and 28 four-color photographs on 32 pages done by Will Rousseau. This was the first cookbook written by the award winning author, Jean Anderson. Anderson has a BS in Food and Nutrition from Cornell University and an MS in Journalism from Columbia University . She is a member of the James Beard Cookbook Hall of Fame and a charter member of Les Dames d'Escoffier and the New York Women's Culinary Alliance. She helped organize the James Beard Journalism Awards and for two years, co-chaired that committee. Though best known for her articles in Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Gourmet, More, Travel + Leisure and other magazines, Anderson served as assistant food editor, then managing editor of The Ladies' Home Journal, as contributing editor at Family Circle and Diversion magazines, as chief consulting editor for Reader's Digest cookbooks, and as food columnist for New York Newsday and the Los Angeles Times Syndicate. This is a wonderful, useable collectible.

My mother had this cookbook when I was growing up so I had to buy one for myself. I've also bought one for my daughter and my girlfriend's niece. I love that it includes information on dressing out game and canning as well as "older" recipes that are not commonly seen in more modern cookbooks. It's nice to have the variety of both the old and new so it's your choice as to how you like to cook.
A must have for everyone who likes to cook!

They only shipped volume 1, it clearly shows a picture of both books and has a description that leads you to believe two books are coming.

I was expected the 2 volume set like I had. I wanted to give it to the younger generation and keep mine.While it looks that way it is not it is only one volume.

Got this as a replacement for my mom's copy. She'd had it for over 30 years and it was completely falling apart. She was so ecstatic to get a new copy that didn't have to be held together with rubber bands. Super affordable and in great condition.

When I moved to Alaska in 1973 the price of food was so high I had to learn how to cook.Upon entering the Fairbanks book store I asked for help.I purchased The Doubleday Cookbook and became the best cook ever!Everything is so simple to understand and follow.This book today is still my #1 receipe for all things I wish to prepare.Everyone should own one.I lost my orignal cookbook but found this one on Amazon.I'm a lucky girl!!

This has been my favorite cookbook for years and years. The chili recipe is worth the whole book. Always find info or a great recipe. Friends, family and even strangers love my cooking. Without this book I would be lost in the kitchen. Thrilled to find it again. My original is falling apart at the seams. Kind of like the Velveteen Rabbit. Worn from years of love and cooking.
I had a two volume edition of this book, but one of them fell apart, completely, from heavy use over the years. My favorite recipes are in this book, and I desperately needed a replacement. I'm thrilled to have both volumes in one book. aves a little space on my kitchen bookshelf!
