Over the years, we have searched far and wide for books of this genre on Amazon.com, other web sites, brick-and-mortar book stores, book fairs, garage sales, etc... We now have a reasonable collection of them. Bottom Line: there are not that many available in the marketplace and the good ones are as rare and hard to find as hens' teeth. This is a good one that captures much folk wisdom along with a hearty gourmet influence. It contains lots of variety of both game types and cooking styles (from small game to the really big game of legend) and a very reasonable price ta' boot. In addition, it has a binding that allows it to lie flat while you cook. So, if you're interested in cooking wild game, or just interested in some new transferable gourmet cooking ideas, don't hesitate to buy this relatively inexpensive book, especially if you have an Amazon Prime membership. If you buy & apply it, you'll get a high return on your investment.

I just did an internet search for this book, hoping to find a website for Edie Franson so I could thank her for some delicious meals. I'll write a review here instead. We've got half a deer in the freezer, and we didn't really know what to do with it before-- we'd tried some recipes from different places and they were okay, sometimes good, sometimes gamey... but every recipe I've tried from this book has been not just good, but SURPRISINGLY good-- the sort of thing that makes you slow down and really TASTE it. The Cabinhaus Venison Stew is a perfect, hearty, absolutely satisfying stew for a cold day. Yesterday, on the other hand, we cooked Marinated Venison Kabobs on the grill-- the recipe itself doesn't LOOK all that remarkable, but one bite and my husband and I looked at each other and said "Wow!"

We're never going to make every recipe in this book, and at some point we're bound to hit one we don't like, but the INCREDIBLE GOODNESS of the recipes we HAVE made is worth... well, trying to thank Edie Franson for.

This cookbook is perfect for anyone whether you eat wild game or not. These recipes can be converted to use pork, chicken and beef. What I really like is that the recipes use spices and different ingredients that I have in my cupboard and I do not have to run to the store for every recipe. Saves time and money and I do not have a bunch of ingredients that I will never use again, because this author incorporates alot of the same spices and ingredients over and over. The recipes are easy to read and do not need hours of preparation. In the back of the book is a wonderful section of savory dishes that compliment the other great recipes in this book. A must cookbook for everyone!!!
